The AI layer of insurance

There is a path no one was naming: don't replace the system — put an AI layer on top of it. This is WIR's manifesto.

The AI layer of insurance is a layer of intelligence that runs on top of the systems an insurer already uses, never in their place. It automates the manual work of underwriting, pricing, service and management, without the operation having to dismantle its core.

This definition matters, because the market was being pushed toward a false choice.

The false choice

On one side, keep everything as it is: excellent teams trapped in manual work, unable to scale. On the other, the promise from some insurtechs to replace the entire system of record with a new one. A multi-year project, expensive and risky, in which the operation bets its own book of business.

Both exits are costly. The first in productivity. The second in risk.

The third way

There is a path no one was naming: don't replace the system, put an AI layer on top of it.

As José Carlos de Paula, advisor to WIR, puts it: through AI layers, without touching the systems, interfacing via API, AI can do the work that today is manual. The operation keeps running. The layer takes on the bureaucratic part. And the result shows up in weeks, not years.

This is the opposite of a monolithic project. It is additive, reversible and safe.

The human at the center

There is a legitimate fear when AI in insurance comes up: that the machine will replace people. The insurance AI layer does the opposite.

It does not replace the underwriter. It takes off their plate the work the team most hates doing, so that decisions can be decisions again. AI takes on the manual load. Risk judgment, the part only a human should do, stays human.

The underwriter does not die. They finally underwrite.

Why now, why Brazil

The first industry to digitize in Brazil was banking, today a global reference. Insurance and health are the next wave. The market has enormous room to grow, and that will only be possible with technology built by people who understand the sector.

WIR exists to lead this layer. We don't sell technology. We sell innovation, speed and scale, on top of the systems the insurer already runs.

Don't replace the system of record. Put a system of intelligence on top of it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the insurance AI layer?

It is a layer of intelligence that runs on top of the systems an insurer already uses, never in their place. It automates the manual work of underwriting, pricing, service and management, connected via API, without the operation having to replace its core.

Does the AI layer replace the underwriter?

No. It takes the manual work the team most hates off the underwriter's plate, so that risk judgment, the part only a human should do, stays human. The underwriter does not die; they finally underwrite.
